Notebook; Franciscan U. takes another step - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
By The Tribune-Review Thursday, February 2, 2006 In another step toward NCAA Division III membership, athletic teams at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio, will begin competing on the varsity level this spring. Previously, the majority of Barons games were scheduled against club and junior varsity teams, but they will now play varsity schedules. Franciscan's varsity men's baseball, men's tennis, and women's softball teams will be the first to compete as varsity squads this spring. In the fall, Franciscan's varsity men's and women's cross country, soccer, and women's volleyball will face varsity opponents. In the winter, men's and women's basketball will join the varsity status.
