Eighteen members and one guest were present for the Marion Evening Exchange Club's meting Thursday evening at the Hostess House, 723 W. Fourth St. Jack Colescott led the prayer, followed by the pledge by Joe Brown. Jack Clark won the jackpot and Jack Colescott won the tool set. The Marion Evening Exchange Club won the traveling trophy presented by The Salvation Army for the bell ringing during the holiday season. Nearly $3,000 was collected in the three Saturdays the club worked. This award is presented to the service organization collecting the most money overall. The club also received a thank you letter from the local Girl Scouts. Guest speaker Jerry Whitton, director of Tucker Career and Technology Center and (who has been with Marion Community Schools for almost 40 years), discussed the center's various programs including commercial foods, construction and trades, print shop, health occupations and project lead-the-way (pre-engineering program). Sixty percent of the students go on to further schooling after completing courses at Tucker. Adult basic education also is offered, including obtaining a GED. A practical nursing program also is in place. The school recently started a work keys test that matches abilities and skills to particular jobs and - more available
