Entertainment Calendar - Charlotte Observer
GULF RELIEF BENEFIT VARIETY SHOW: Sponsored by the Phaup Dance Academy and the American Red Cross, 8 p.m. Nov. 26, Newton-Conover Civic and Performance Place, 60 W. Sixth St., Newton. The theme of the show will be southern and New Orleans performance music, singing, dancing and acting. Featured will be a Dixieland band, cloggers, tap dancer and a short comedic play written by Shel Silverstein. A gospel choir will perform an adaptation of the 23rd Psalm. A disc jockey, rap artists and tap dancers will join for a performance. A soloist will sing the song "Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans" by Louis Armstrong. Tickets: $12. Proceeds donated to American Red Cross. Local entertainer Robby Fulton will be the master of ceremonies. The show will be rated PG. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by phone.
