Among Roman Catholic leaders, a group that has comprised some of the technology's most solid opposition, the response was mixed. A leader of a statewide anti-abortion group and an official with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said the techniques still raised ethical questions. A spokesman for a group of Roman Catholic bioethicists, however, called one of the methods a step in the right direction.
