Kasel awarded for years of success at YME - Granite Falls Advocate Tribune
One thing has changed this year for Kasel--she's been honored for her years of hard work and kindness with the presentation of the Carlo A. Sperati Award from Luther College, her alma mater. She was presented with the award at a ceremony on Sunday, Oct. 9.Kasel said that the Sperati plaque hung in the band room she performed in during her college days, and that she never imagined she'd see her name engraved along with all those she looked up to. ”The people who got that award were like my heroes, my idols,“ she said.”Music is for everybody,“ said Kasel when asked about her teaching philosophy, adding that she's never turned away a student who wanted to study music with her. She said that through music, her students learn many life lessons, like the ability to work and be dependent on a large group to attain a common goal.”I truly believe that music is my avenue to teach things (students) will need in life,“ she said. ”Hopefully I influence them in self-discipline and in working toward goals.“
