Earthquake Hits Off San Diego Coast - KFMB
Many San Diego residents were rattled when an earthquake measuring 4.9 struck just off San Diego's coast Sunday.The quake happened at 2:11 p.m., 50 miles south-southeast of San Clemente Island, about 70 miles west of Coronado. According to experts, at no time was there a tsunami danger."Whenever there are earthquakes over the ocean floor, it makes us think of tsunamis," San Diego State University geologist Pat Abbot said. "But generally speaking, we don't think about a tsunami unless the earthquake is a magnitude 7.5 or higher."This being 4.9, zero tsunami potential worry, whatsoever."
