TEMECULA ---- Three high schoolers from Temecula were among the approximately 16,000 semifinalists named in the 51st annual National Merit Scholarship Program.Tamara K. Marnell and Disa D. Yoo of Chaparral High School and Jillian Cook of Temecula Valley have to opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,200 Merit Scholarships worth more than $33 million that will be awarded in the spring.Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist stage and about half of the finalist will be selected Merit Scholarship winners.More than 1.3 million juniors entered the 2006 program by taking the qualifying test in 2004.Chaparral student headed to PhillyTEMECULA ---- Christopher Nickelson from Chaparral High School has been chosen to participate in the American Veterans Association's four-day history and political science trip to Philadelphia.Amvets is the fourth-largest veterans organization in the United States.
